Felling, importation of timber products allowed but under strict controls

The Ministry of Environment said the ban on timber harvesting on all public and community forests was still in force.

Private timber growers in commercial forests can now harvest trees but under tight controls.

The Government yesterday sought to clarify the scope of the 90-day moratorium on logging issued on February 24, saying movement permits issued by the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) would now be required for all timber products from private forest plantations.
