Boinnet: Police officers behind killing of lawyer to face murder charges

Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet

Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet says Administration Police officers behind the killing of lawyer and two others will face murder charges.

Boinnet says there is circumstantial evidence to link the three AP officers to the murder of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Joseph Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri. They will face charges including murder as soon as investigations are over.

The IG says the behavior of the three suspected officers is not a representative of the national police service.

"I reject claims there are death squads in police. These are rogue officers just like any society with rogue people," he said.

He says police will ensure justice for all and consoled with the affected families.

Bodies of the lawyer and the two were found in a river in Kilimambogo after they went missing after leaving a court in Mavoko on June 23.
