Two government agencies have named roads deemed dangerous whenever it rains in Nairobi.

This follows torrential rains that are being experienced in the city and forecasts the situation would continue.

They want motorists and pedestrians to avoid them during heavy rains

The National Transport and Safety Authority and the Kenya National Highways Authority want all road users to be vigilant due to unfavourable road conditions occasioned by the rains.

“The Authorities further urge motorists not to risk their lives by attempting to cross flooded areas unless advised by the traffic police and the road agencies.”

They added they are monitoring traffic flow and areas that could pose danger and urged the public to call 0718555999 for updates.

In Nairobi alone, at least seven people have been killed since Friday when the rains pounded various parts.

They include, Langata Road (T-mall), Muhoho road/Popo Road Junction, Muhoho road at Ngong river crossing and Lusaka road and Baricho Road both at Anti-malaria drain crossing.

The others are Jogoo road near Makadara law courts, James Gichuru Road at Olenguruone Junction and near Convent drive junction, Marcus Gurvey/Chania Avenue Junction, Kipevu/Ushirika Road junction, and Langata South Road at Tangaza College and near Langata Road,

Lower Kabete/Brookside drive junction, Jakaya Kikwete Road at outlet of main drainage from DOD and Lenana Road next to DOD gate.

Meanwhile, tens of passengers spent their night along the Makuyu- Makutano highway on the Nairobi-Nyeri highway over flooding on the roads Saturday.

The jam was also caused by overlapping on both lanes leading to the clogging. Some of the motorists spent almost 12 hours at the scene causing anger. Police had to arrive to clear the mess Sunday morning.

The jam stretched many kilometers amid calls on authorities to arrive and help the situation.

Heavy rains are being experienced in various parts of the country and have caused more than 20 deaths and several displacements.
