Kenya Defence Forces kill 7 Al-Shabaab militants in Dhobley, Somalia

Kenya Defence Forces killed seven Al-Shabaab insurgents on Monday in an ambush at Dhobley area in Somalia.

Two KDF soldiers were injured in the clash and later flown to Nairobi. The incident came a few days after the militants raided Yumbis village within Garissa County and harassed villagers.

Officials say the 7am incident saw Kenya troops overpower the militants who had laid an ambush on them as 3 AK47 riffles and one multipurpose machine gun were recovered.

“KDF personnel came across these militants before they hit back killing some of them. This is an area where operation has happened several times,” said KDF spokesman col David Obonyo.

He said there was a deliberate operation to sanitise the area and that the two soldiers who were injured in the incident are now out of danger.

Dhobley is one of the KDF controlled areas operating under the umbrella of AMISON with an aim of flushing out the Al-Shabaab terror network.

This comes in less than a week after they repulsed 40 militants of an Al-Shabaab linked terror network who had crossed into Kenya from Somalia and went to ‘preach’ for two hours in a mosque in Ijara warning the mosque leaders from exposing sympathizers.

According to Somali government, the ugus militancy outfit means “the group that massacres Somali people.”

Security agencies have intensified border patrols to deter infiltration of the militants into the country at a time of increased terror threats by the terrorists’ network.

The government has already started construction of proposed wall between Kenya and Somalia in Kiunga, Lamu County to address the porous borders believed to be easy route for terrorists into the country.
