Rape suspect tells Mombasa court alleged victim is his wife

A Mombasa resident charged with rape has claimed that there are external forces fighting his marriage.

The accused sent the court into both laughter when he said that the complainant in the case is his wife whom they have been married for 10 years.

He claimed in court on Friday that he has sired two children with the complainant and was surprised that he was being charged with trying to rape his wife.

He said he cannot understand how a man can be accused of raping his wife.

Chrispine Otieno alias ‘Jaalego’ was charged with attempted rape and committing an indecent act with a lady identified as W.J in Magongo area, Mombasa County on June 15, 2020.

He told the court that he did not know how to respond to the charges since it is impossible for him to rape his own wife.

“There is a case being forced in court by someone who wants to snatch me my wife and wants me to suffer in court and in jail so that he actions can sail through because it’s so sad that today am charged with raping my own wife,” the accused told the court.

Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Vincent Adet however noted that from the explanation, the accused had denied the charges and went ahead to release him on bond.

“This court notes that the accused has denied count one and count two and he is released on a surety bond of Sh200,000 and the matter will be mentioned on September 29, 2020,” Senior Resident Magistrate Adet stated in his ruling.

Already, four witnesses including the complainant have been lined up to testify against the accused.
