Kakamega man kills wife, hangs himself over domestic row

Western

A couple was found dead in their house in Lukume village, Malava constituency in what police suspect to be a murder-suicide.

Solomon Isaiah, 47, is suspected of killing his wife Consolata Masitsa, 38, in their house before he ended his life over alleged infidelity.

Police said they found the bodies dangling from the roof rafters.

Kakamega County Police Commander Joseph Kigen said they have launched investigations to establish the cause of death.

“We have commenced our investigations and we are asking residents to volunteer information about the incident," he said.

"We took the two bodies to the Kakamega County Referral Hospital mortuary for autopsy to establish the real cause of the deaths," he added.

It is believed that Isaiah killed his wife after he tracked her phone and found out that she was cheating with a security guard in a neighboring school.

The couple's daughter said her parents had quarreled earlier in the day and in the evening she saw his father inspecting a rope used for tethering cattle.

However, she did not suspect that her father was plotting the horrific deaths.

She prepared supper which they ate together at around 7:30 pm, before their father directed her and the other siblings to go and watch TV at a neighbors' house.

“After we had watched a programme, we came back and found the lights off. We found a torch on the table and switched it on. We were shocked to see the body of our father dangling from the roof of our sitting room," said the daughter who did not wish to be named.

Deblah Mwanje, a sister to Isaiah said he had confided in her that his wife was cheating on him with a security guard in one of the schools.

“I asked my brother where he got the information and he told me he had been tracking the communication between my sister-in-law and the security guard and the two had been having sex in his house," said Mwanje.

“We told him to solve the issue amicably since the wife had admitted to the affair and sought advice from elders but a day later I was shocked to hear that the two were no more,” she said.

Isaiah’s mother, Esther Enock, said he works in Nanyuki and visited the family frequently.
