Kasipul MP Ong'ondo Were now says he is superior to Senator Moses Kajwang' in the hierarchy of elected political leaders in Homa Bay County.
Were surprised residents of Kasipul Constituency by saying he is the second superior-most politician among elected leaders in Homa Bay after Governor Gladys Wanga.
However, this is contrary to conventional knowledge. The common knowledge is that Governor Wanga is considered the senior most elected leader, followed by the deputy governor Oyugi Magwanga, Senator Moses Kajwang' and Woman representative Joyce Osogo. This has been demonstrated in protocol at various functions held in the county.
But Were now says none of the leaders except Wanga is more senior than him in Kasipul Constituency.
He argued that the seniority of a political leader should be gauged with their capacity to transform residents' lives through the implementation of development projects.
Were caused a stir when he told residents to know that he is the "King" in Kasipul Constituency. This means he is the only one who should direct electorate in the constituency.
The MP spoke at Kasipul NGCDF offices in Oyugis town when he distributed Sh30.8 million bursaries to 4,695 students in secondary and tertiary institutions. He argued that nobody should perceive that Senator Kajwang' is more senior than him in Kasipul Constituency.
"In Kasipul Constituency, I am the one to give direction. Even the Senator is my junior and cannot be compared with me. I am also senior to the deputy governor," Were said.
Development projects
As a way of substantiating his point, the MP argued that apart from Wanga, he is the one who has the capacity to undertake significant development projects in his constituency.
He argued that Kajwang' has no allocations for development and has never carried out any projects in Kasipul.
"To be candid with my constituents, can anybody point at any development project implemented by the Senator in Kasipul constituency? There is absolutely none because he does not have the capacity to do development projects. That is why I am ranked above him," Were said.
He argued that the senatorial post is too broke for him to contest.
"I cannot vie for a senatorial seat because it does not have avenues for improving lives of the people through development projects."
Were argued he is also senior to Homa Bay Woman Rep Joyce Osogo.
He argued he is the one bestowed with powers to issue political direction to residents of his constituency.
The MP warned politicians he considered his juniors against going to his constituency to give residents any direction on politics.
"I am the one in charge of Kasipul Constituency and no junior politician should come here to give any political direction to residents without my permission," Were said.
He promised to transform area residents' lives by implementing the development projects. Some of his priorities are education and the implementation of water projects in the constituency.
"Apart from paying school fees, we are also constructing classrooms, laboratories and water projects in schools. I want Kasipul to achieve economic development and have productive citizens in future," Were said.
Former nominated MP Mary Gaya hailed Were for development projects he has undertaken in the area.
