Suba women let me spend two nights alone, Raila protests during visit

Newsbeat & Tech

Azimio leader Raila Odinga elicited a laugh when he told Suba ladies that he is not a eunuch to be left to sleep alone in a hotel room for two nights.

Raila was on a tour of Homa Bay County last weekend when he launched ODM membership registration Suba North constituency.

He travelled to Mfangano Island on Saturday evening where he spent the night at a hotel. The following day, he held meetings and a rally at Sena trading centre on the island where he rallied residents to register for ODM party membership.

Raila spent another night in the constituency on Sunday evening in readiness for meetings and a rally in Mbita town which hosts the constituency’s party headquarters.

On Monday, Raila met ODM delegates at the Devlink resource centre on the outskirts of Mbita when he talked to supporters on how to register for the party membership.

It was during that meeting that he expressed his dissatisfaction with Suba ladies for leaving him to sleep alone for two nights.

Raila told the gathering he was unhappy that Suba region is full of beautiful ladies yet none of them could keep him company.

“I have been in Mfangano where I spent two nights. It is unfortunate that Suba ladies did not keep me company. It is unfortunate that there are many beautiful ladies in this area but none of them could see me.”

Despite the disappointment, Raila said he had not given up.

The comments thrilled the crowd that cheered him on as they blew whistles chanting, “Agwambo wuod Nyalego”.

Raila had to halt his speech for a few minutes to let the crowd digest his words. The opposition leader said he loved the people of Suba for supporting his ODM party for many years. He explained that the decision to launch the party membership registration was meant to strengthen it.

“ODM is a social democratic party. We live in a democratic country where the presidency is acquired through the vigour of a political party,” Raila said. He argued that the membership registration will enable the ODM party to achieve the desired vibrancy.

One of the issues that dominated the meeting was high taxation which has increased the prices of goods. Raila accused President William Ruto of using the wrong method of generating revenue for implementing development.
