Justice Michael Mwanyale narrates that when he was nominated as a judge, he was running a law firm in Mombasa.

According to him, he was left in limbo, as advocates could not allow him to represent clients before the court.

He said his solace was a restaurant called Abadere on the ground floor of the same building as his then law firm.

The judge stated that his only business at the restaurant was a cup of tea initially.

However, he said, he had grown a new appetite for chapati.

"I would end up eating and drinking tea and chapati the whole day, and I gained a lot of weight. I was later to discover this habit of eating the whole day was triggered by stress and anxiety due to the process of waiting," narrated Justice Mwanyale.

He stated that he lost friends and clients as the President and politicians repeatedly painted them as tainted judges.

"The condemnation was cruel and undignified as it cast doubt on my moral standings, yet I had been cleared by the relevant government agencies like KRA and the DCI before the interviews, and I had been nominated as a judge... I had to look for ways to sustain myself, and the situation was very unbearable as I had exhausted my savings," he said.

Another judge, Justice Njagi is seeking Sh 100 million for violation of his rights. The judge stated that his family and he went through untold suffering.

Justice Wanza said the 22 months put her into financial embarrassment and humiliation as she tried to keep her law firm afloat.

The judge added that it also made her a liability to her spouse as she previously contributed to the family's expenses.
