Struggling with homosexuality? CITAM church wants to help you

Christ Is the Answer Ministries Church known to many as CITAM is appealing to any member of the public struggling with what it terms as 'different kinds of sexual desires' to reach out for prayers and counseling services.

The church made the remarks while reacting to a Supreme Court ruling last Friday that stated 'despite homosexuality being illegal in Kenya, members of the LGBTQ still have a right of association'.

In a statement by Reverend Calisto Odede, the church says it is ready to restore and heal affected people, by restoring them to live a normal straight life.

"Anyone struggling in these areas is welcome to any of our CITAM assemblies for counseling and prayer, as we believe God is able to forgive, restore and help one live a straight life that is God-honoring," the statement reads in part.

The church has also urged its believers to oppose and resist the supreme court ruling on grounds that it will erode our societal norms and morals.

"We call upon Christians and Kenyans of goodwill to stand out in opposition to this ruling and express their disagreement openly," CITAM says.

According to CITAM's presiding bishop, the Bible considers homosexual behavior as sin because It is disobedient to scriptural teachings, it is contrary to God's created order for the family and human relationships, it comes under divine judgment and it is a sin.

"...but reconciliation and restoration to God is possible,".

The church has argued that the court's decision was misplaced, and therefore could open room for justification of other vices like pedophiles and incest.

"This rather contradictory ruling has left many of us wondering whether other illegal practitioners like pedophiles and those involved in incest also have the right of association and if not, how different they are from homosexuals. And perhaps criminal organisations as well,"

As per the Supreme Court ruling on Friday, February 24, members of the LGBTQ community have the power to seek formal recognition by the Non-Governmental Organizations Coordination Board.

In the case, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, Justice Smokin Wanjala, and Justice Njoki Ndung'u ruled on the majority side of the issue.

Justice Mohamed Ibrahim and William Ouko dissented, stating that homosexuals shouldn't be allowed to form recognised associations in Kenya.

On November 23, 2021, the Supreme Court heard the case challenging the decisions of the High Court and Court of Appeal to allow the Kenyan National Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (NGLHRC) to be officially registered as a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
