In a thrilling commencement to the Nyanza Region Secondary School games, teams from across the region locked horns in what promises to be an electrifying series of matches leading up to the national term one games in Machakos next month.

Among the day's standout performances, Ageng’a Mixed from Migori County set the tone with a commanding 7-0 victory over Rae Girls in the girls' hockey competition.

The match, which saw Ageng’a assert their dominance right from the whistle, was a display of skill and teamwork. Stars of the game, Bella Akinyi, Happy Misango, and Cynthia Auma, each scored twice, showcasing their prowess on the field, while Velma Achieng's goal capped off a flawless team performance.

Ageng’a head coach Aloice Owino was happy with the performance and said they will be taking it a game at a time.

Owino praised his team's effort, stating, "The girls showed great skill and determination today. We aim to maintain this momentum and focus on one game at a time, with our eyes firmly set on the championship."

The excitement continued on the handball courts where defending champions Manyatta from Migori County narrowly edged out Siaya County heavyweights St Mary’s School Yala in a nail-biting 35-34 victory.

The match was a rollercoaster of emotions for both teams, with Manyatta managing to hold onto their lead in a tense finish. Other handball matches saw Miranga defeating Nyamira Girls 25-20 and Ulanda overpowering Ndonyo 39-24, setting an intense pace for the competition.

Meanwhile, in the hockey boys' category, Siaya County champions Sawagongo made a strong start by thrashing Nduru Boys from Kisii 6-0, signaling their intent to compete for the championship.

As the Nyanza region games progress, the performances of teams like Ng'iya Girls in basketball, Ageng’a Mixed in hockey, and Manyatta in handball will be closely watched by fans and competitors alike.

With the national term one games on the horizon, every match, every goal, and every victory brings these teams one step closer to their dream of national glory.
