Will Greg Snow freeze out other stars at Sigona today?

The fourth leg of Safari Tour series tees off this morning at the par 72 Sigona Golf Club with over 50 golfers in contention.

The men to watch in the tournament will be Mumias long hitter Dismas Indiza, Muthaiga sensation Greg Snow and resilient Zimbabwean Robson Chinhoi.

The three have so far risen to the occasion, bagging Vet Lab, Limuru and Royal contests in that order in the new season.

“From now henceforth, I’ll give Kenyan players a run for their money,” Chinhoi said when he won second leg at Royal.

The 29-year old who turned pro in 2017 is one of the finest players to ever been produced by the Royal Harare Golf Club.

So far, he’s been the most impressive foreigner in the series that also has golfers from Uganda, Rwanda and Malawi.

“I hope the pin positions at Sigona will be friendly, I’m looking forward to win the event,” he noted.

Even though he’s the oldest, 52-year-old Indiza is poised to give young blood hard time on the fairways.

This is evident by his amazing form that saw him bag the third leg at Vet Lab on Wednesday.

“I’m not here to joke, I’m here to look for money, so victory is a must for me,” said Indiza who admitted that his finances have  been hit hard by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Focus will also be on Snow, winner of of the opening leg in Limuru.

Snow and his parents have been busy working on his putts and swings ahead of Sigona.

The 30-year old had a torrid time with Vet Lab fairways, especially on hole 15.

The rough moments denied him crucial shots that could have seen him seal a deal for third place in the event.

The third position that came with Sh56,000 prize money was surprisingly won by home boy Edwin Mudanyi.

Other foreigners to keep an eye on at Sigona are Paul Chidale of Malawi and Philip Kasozi of Uganda.

In order for them to land respectable positions on the leader board, they will have to fend strong opposition from the Kenyan brigade of Erick Ooko, David Wakhu and Jacob Okello, all of Golf Park.

Others are Kopan Timbe and Simon Ngige of Thika Greens, John Wangai of Limuru and Jastas Madoya of the Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort.

David Opati of Windsor is also optimistic ahead of Sigona following his improved health.

He was forced to withdraw at Royal after he injured his hand.

Timbe and George Khalakai of Railways who withdrew at Vet Lab due to sickness are also expected in action today.

Wakhu who has been attending physiotherapy sessions for his injured left elbow has confirmed he is fit and ready to battle at Sigona.

Each leg of the series has  Sh1 million purse money that is shared by the top 20 golfers in order of merit.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods’ bid for a record-setting 83rd PGA Tour victory will have to wait despite a solid round on Friday, after he finished 12 strokes off the lead and tied for 66th at the halfway point of the Zozo Championship.

The 15-time major winner equaled Sam Snead’s record 82 wins at Zozo in 2019 after clinching his fifth Masters title to cap a remarkable redemption arc.

But the returning champion’s second-round 66 was not enough to offset his horrid opening round, where he failed to capitalize on the short course’s par-fives.

Woods carded a four-over par 76 on Thursday, with four bogeys and a double-bogey.
