Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has strongly opposed the results of a recent survey that ranked Embakasi East MP Babu Owino as the best-performing lawmaker in Kenya.

The survey was conducted by research firm Infotrak and placed Babu Owino at the top with a score of 72 per cent. Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro followed closely at 71 per cent. Salasya was ranked fifth with a score of 61 per cent.

Salasya took to social media to express his disappointment with the ranking. He shared the poll results and wrote, “I being number 5 is not enough. I am supposed to be number one. I am rigged, but it’s okay. I will be giving a press statement in this regard. I will explain and state to the public what I have been able to achieve and I will dare them to mention what they have been able to achieve.”

Later, Salasya shared a video of himself receiving an award from Infotrak. In the caption, he said he would visit Embakasi East and Kiharu constituencies to see what their MPs had done that he had not. “I must be number one, and that is where I belong. I am destined for greatness, and greatness is my portion,” he stated.

The MP later posted another video highlighting his achievements in Mumias East. He said he had built modern toilets for private schools, improved sports, developed infrastructure, renovated schools and bridges, and improved water access.

He added that he had doubled the number of students joining universities through bursaries among other projects, saying, “The things I have done in Mumias East, no one has done in Kenya.”

He further claimed that Infotrak had favoured Babu Owino in the survey. “If we go practically, I am supposed to defeat Babu by 10 points. If I count what I have done in one year, it is what Babu has done in two years. I am inviting Infotrak to come again to Mumias East,” he said.

Meanwhile, Babu Owino celebrated his top position. Reacting to the survey, he wrote on Instagram, “Today is a great day for all Kenyans who believe in credible youthful leaders. The great people of Embakasi East Constituency and all Kenyans who voted for me as the best-performing MP in Kenya, I sincerely thank you, and I promise to do better in my next assignments.”

Other MPs in the top 10 included Kabuchai MP Joseph Simiyu (62 per cent), Kathiani MP Robert Mbui (62 per cent), Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba (61 per cent), Sirisia MP John Waluke (61 per cent), Mbooni MP Erastus Kivasu (61 per cent), Wundanyi MP Danson Mwakuwona (60 per cent), Taveta MP John Okano (60 per cent), Saboti MP Caleb Amisi (60 per cent), and Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu (60 per cent).

Infotrak said the survey was based on citizens' feedback regarding the development projects and services provided by their MPs.
