Over 700, 000 Kenyans have become atheists

The number of Kenyans who do not believe in God has grown so much that they no longer operate in secret. Today, they stand at over half a million, in a country where 90 percent of the population consider themselves Christians.

When they sought official recognition in 2016, religious leaders ganged up and opposed the registration of atheists as a minority group. The argument was that the recognition of atheists could affect peace and good order.
