King Charles III appoints Kenyan Born Veronica Pickering as Nottinghamshire's Lord-Lieutenant

Kenyan-born Professor Veronica Moraa Pickering, DL, has been appointed by King Charles III as His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for the County of Nottinghamshire.

In an official statement released by the Prime Minister's Office, 10 Downing Street, this significant role comes after the retirement of Sir John Peace, CVO, on 2nd March 2024.

Veronica Moraa Pickering, a social entrepreneur and former UK Social Worker and Children’s Guardian has dedicated her career to supporting vulnerable communities.

Her impactful work as an International Child Protection Consultant for the UN and numerous NGOs across Africa has been commendable, focusing on empowering vulnerable individuals and their families.

Acknowledging her service to Kenya, Veronica was honoured with the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (M.B.S.) in 2022 by the President.

Currently, Veronica serves as an Executive Coach and partnership specialist, contributing her expertise to various companies and organizations across the UK.

Her advocacy extends to supporting arts and wildlife conservation charities, holding trustee positions in esteemed organizations like the RSPB and Nottinghamshire YMCA (Robin Hood Group). She is also an Ambassador for The Woodland Trust and UK RAF Museums.

A visiting Professor at the Lincoln International Business School, Veronica's commitment to education and community development is commendable.

Her groundbreaking achievement includes being the first black woman appointed as the Royal Air Force (RAF) Honorary Air Commodore, a milestone in promoting inclusivity in esteemed positions.

Veronica currently holds the esteemed position of High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire. She resides near Nottingham with her husband, Nottinghamshire-born artist Roy Pickering. Together, they take pride in their two adult children.

A Kenyan native, Veronica Moraa Pickering, now a prominent figure in the United Kingdom, has been appointed as His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for the County of Nottinghamshire. 

This significant role follows the retirement of Sir John Peace, CVO, on 2nd March 2024.

Veronica Pickering, a beacon of inspiration, has achieved a remarkable milestone as the first black woman to be appointed as the Royal Air Force (RAF) Honorary Air Commodore. 

Her accomplishment reflects her commitment to breaking barriers and promoting inclusivity in esteemed positions.

Hailing from Kenya, Veronica's journey embodies dedication and service, rooted in her extensive career as a UK Social Worker, Children’s Guardian, and International Child Protection Consultant. 

Her tireless efforts in supporting vulnerable individuals and families have earned her recognition, notably the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (M.B.S.) in 2022, acknowledging her service to Kenya.

Apart from her professional endeavours, Veronica is deeply involved in charitable causes, particularly in supporting arts and wildlife conservation charities.
