The Health Union Caucus has called for enhanced security in hospitals.
While condemning the harassment of a clinical officer and a nurse at Port Victoria Hospital, Busia, the caucus appealed to relevant authorities, including the police, to swiftly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
"It is concerning that almost all hospitals do not have scanners and anybody can get into the hospital with weapons without forgetting that a number of people seeking attention are mentally unwell," the joint statement read in part.
At the same time, the caucus called on law enforcers to collaborate with health facilities to establish effective security protocols.
The medics emphasized that the safety of healthcare providers is crucial for the delivery of quality services.
The caucus said the Port Victoria Hospital incident not only jeopardizes the safety and well-being of medics but also undermines the critical healthcare services they provide to the community.
It noted that the latest incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks healthcare workers face daily while dedicating their lives to saving lives and alleviating suffering.
In the statement, the medics said patients ought to adhere to the rules of a health facility.
