Covid-19: Kenya records 1,504 new cases, 401 new recoveries

Kenya has recorded 1,504 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 4,636 raising the country's caseload to 285,654.

In a statement on Tuesday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 32.4 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,999,548.

Out of the new patients, 707 are male, whereas 797 are female, with the youngest carrier being a three-month-old baby and the oldest aged 95.

Of the new cases, 211 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi County recorded 739 cases, Siaya 97, Nakuru 88, Kiambu 69, Uasin Gishu 50, Migori 47, Murang’a 40, Garissa 38, Mombasa 34, Nyeri and Machakos 29 ach, Embu and Kakamega 28 cases each, Kilifi and Nyandarua 20 cases each, Meru 19, Kisumu 18, Kajiado 17, Kwale and Homa Bay 12 cases each, Laikipia 9, Kericho and Lamu 8 cases each, Makueni 7, Baringo and Bungoma 6 cases each, Kirinyaga 5, Vihiga, Narok and Tharaka Nithi 4 cases each, Busia 3, Nandi 2, Kisii, Marsabit, Taita Taveta and Trans Nzoia 1 case each.

Total recoveries now stand at 250, 727 after 401 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours 298 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 103 from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 201,902 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 48,825 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 752 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 21,033 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Thirty-seven (37) patients are in the ICU with 19 of them are on ventilatory support while 18 are on supplemental oxygen. No patients are on observation.

Another 174 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 158 of them in the general wards while 16 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccinated

In terms of vaccination, Kenya has so far administered 9,614,364 Covid-19 vaccines across the country according to the Ministry of Health latest records.

Of these, 5,656,859 have been partially vaccinated while 3,957,505 have been fully vaccinated.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 55.7 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 14.5 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27, 246,033.
