16 succumb to virus as 92 others fight for life in ICU

349 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 4,208 tested in the last 24 hours.

This brings the total number of confirmed Covid-19 infections in the country to 171,084.

Sixteen deaths were reported bringing the total number of Covid-19 fatalities to 3,188.

“All of them are late death reports from facility record audits conducted on diverse dates in the months of April and May,” the Ministry of Health reported.

At the same time, 92 patients are battling for their lives in ICU; 21 of whom are on ventilatory support and 54 on supplemental oxygen while 17 others are under observation.

Gladly, 176 patients have recovered from the virus bringing the total number of recoveries to 117,023.

“Of the 176 patients who have recovered, 144 are from Home Based and Isolation Care while 32 are from various health facilities,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said.

The Ministry of Health also reported that 90 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 84 of them in general wards and six in High Dependency Units.

Further 1,257 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities, while 4,704 patients are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care Program. 

In terms of case distribution by counties, Nairobi reported 80 new infections, Kisumu 67, Siaya 37, Mombasa 35 as the other counties had less than 20 new cases.

Cumulative tests conducted so far are 1,815,766 and the positivity rate today is 8.3 per cent.
