Covid-19: 18 admitted in ICU as 931 more test positive

Kenya has 18 Covid-19 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and has recorded 931 new positive cases in the past 24 hours raising the country's total caseload to 49, 721.

In a statement sent to media houses by the Ministry of Health on Sunday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe (pictured) said the new cases are from 6,691 samples which push the country’s cumulative tests to 659, 920.

In terms of gender, 615 are male and 316 are female while the youngest case is five-month-old and the oldest is aged 90.

Of the new cases, 896 are Kenyans while 35 are foreigners.

On a positive note, 333 patients recovered with 256 on the home-based care programme while 77 were discharged from various hospitals bringing the total number of recoveries to 34, 209.

On a sad note, Kagwe said 6 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing Kenya’s fatalities to 902.

Apart from the 18 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), there are  49 on supplementary oxygen and 16 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

A total of 1,198 are admitted in various health facilities while 34,37 are in the Home-based Isolation and Care.

Distribution

In the county distribution, Nairobi leads with 333 cases Mombasa 95, Nakuru 85, Trans Nzoai 61, Kericho 60, Turkana 54, Kisumu 39, Uasin Gishu 24, Kakamega 24, Kiambu 23, Busia 19, Kitui 18, Kajiado 16, Machakos 14, Kisii 12, Garissa 11, Murang’a 9, Nyamira 7. Nandi 6, Kirinyaga 4, Vihiga 3, Isiolo 3, Meru 2, Homa Bay 2, Embu 2, Kilifi 1, Kwale 1, Narok 1, Migori 1, and Tharaka Nithi 1.

In Uasin Gishu, the 181 cases are from Ainabkoi (137), Turbo (40), Kesses (2), Kapseret and Moiben (1) case each.

In Nairobi, the 333 cases are from Langata (74), Westlands (36) Dagoretti North (30), Kasarani (22) Embakasi East and Starehe (18) cases each, Roysambu (16), Kibra and Makadara (15) cases each, Embakasi South (14), Embakasi Central and Ruaraka (12) cases each,Dagoretti South and Embakasi West (11) cases each, Embakasi North and Kamukunji (10) cases each and Mathare (9).

In Mombasa, the 95 cases are from Mvita (38), Nyali (24), Jomvu (18), Kisauni (11) and Likoni (4).

In Nakuru, the 85 cases are fromNaivasha (21), Nakuru East (20), Nakuru West (16), Rongai (6), Njoro and Subukia (4) cases each, Gilgil (2) and Molo (1).

In Trans Nzoia, all the 61 cases are from Saboti.
