Early birth triplets out of danger

By NAFTAL MAKORI

Triplets born prematurely some 45 days ago in Nyamira District Hospital are out of danger.

Mrs Grace Orwaru of Nyagenke village was rushed to the hospital six weeks ago after she experienced premature labour.

“I underwent C-Section and it was successful but the doctor told me the babies were underweight, as they were born prematurely,” she explained. The triplets spent at least five weeks in the special care unit (nursery) while their mother was admitted at the maternity ward.

Skilled Deliveries

Medics said the two girls and boy could not have survived if the mother had delivered at home. They encouraged mothers to always deliver at health centres for skilled deliveries.

Nursing officer in charge Doris Onsomu said the children were fed with a special formula since the mother’s milk was inadequate.

Ms Onsomu, however, expressed fears that Orwaru might not be able to feed the triplets with the special formula, thus exposing them to malnourishment. She appealed to well-wishers to support her raise the triplets, who have since reached maturity.

The nursing officer said it was not the first time mothers have delivered triplets at the facility.
