Sergio Ramos makes controversial statement about Catalonia leader after Barcelona game, risks anger of Barcelona fans

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos made a controversial statement regarding exiled Catalonia leader  Carles Puigdemont briefly after the match that saw Barcelona thrash Real Madrid 3-0 at Santiago Bernabeau on Saturday evening.

Ramos made a risky tackle against Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, hit him in the face and escaped with a mere yellow card. With Barcelona fans venting their anger on the Ream Madrid skipper. Ramos utilized after-match press briefing to hit back at the Barcelona fans and critics.

“In Barcelona, sure they think I should go to jail with Puigdemont. I had no intention to hit Luis Suarez,” Ramos stated to the reporters.

Without any doubt, Ramos risks the wrath of Barcelona fans whose majority comprise of Spanish people identifying with Catalonia-a region which seeks to secede from Spain. Ramos’ statement may imply that Carles Puigdemont should be jailed. This may also bring more rift between and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique who has publicly taken a political stand by supporting secession of Catalonia.

Carles Puigdemont is in exile in Belgium and he is regarded by Catalonians and mostly Barcelona fans as the leader of the Catalonia.
