Over 150 golfers converge at the seaside par 71 Mombasa golf club course tomorrow for the ongoing NIC Bank Golf Series Coast Edition.

The one-day 18 holes stableford tournament, sponsored by NIC Bank has attracted golfers from golf clubs in Mombasa, Nyali, Leisure, Vipingo, Malindi and guests of the sponsors with valid handicaps.

Junior golfer John Mburu who is expected to represent the Country in the forthcoming British Open golf Championships is among the top contenders.

His colleagues Daniel Nduva and Jeremiah Wahome who last weekend hit a hole in one at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club will also compete.

Veteran Diana Munyao will lead the ladies onslaught against Christine Ockotch and Alice Wahome among others.

But Mombasa Club captain Simon Maina will try to prove his might especially against veterans like George Njuguna, Allan Dainty and Eric Nyongesa.

The Series that returned this year and is being played around the country aims at networking with its corporate customers.

The first round of the series teed off at the par 70 Nyanza Golf Club, in the first week of last month after its launch at the Railways Club in Nairobi the same week.

After the Mombasa event, the series move to Eldoret Golf Club, which will play host to Kitale Club, Sigona Golf Club and Kiambu Golf Club.

Meanwhile, at the par 73 Nakuru Golf Club, the fifth leg of this year’s KCB Advantage Banking East African Golf Tour teed off Thursday.

Professionals Simon Ngige, Anil Shah and Brain Njoroge will, however, be conspicuously missing in action since they are in a golf tour out of the county.
Ngige and Njoroge have been invited for two tournaments in Nigeria while Shah will play in the Zambia Open, which is part of the South African circuit.

Professional Golfers of Kenya chairman Rizwan Charania said the Nakuru course is great since it has been raining in last few days and the green is indeed great.

“We expect great performance and stiff competition in Nakuru because the course is in very good condition,” Charania said.
