The first edition of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Cup will kick off on Saturday in different venues across the country.

The federation introduced the knockout event with an eye of improving the level of competition in women’s football, a move which majority of coaches from the FKF Women’s premier League have backed.

Kisumu All Starlets head coach Said Jumah welcomed the move saying it will improve the competitiveness of women football.

“This is a new dawn for women's football. I believe this competition will be key in the development of football not only for the premier league clubs but also for Division One sides.

Players from the lower division now have the chance of showcasing their talents and their players getting the opportunity for exposure,” said Juma whose sentiments were echoed by Vihiga Starlets tactician Alex Alumira
