Manchester United are set to sign Southend United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop.

The 20-year-old was absent from the Shrimpers squad that lost 3-1 to Doncaster United on Tuesday as he completed a medical elsewhere.

Southend boss Sol Campbell confirmed this as the reason behind Bishop's absence, with the club involved believed to be Manchester United.

Bishop came through the ranks at Roots Hall, where he has made 39 appearances since making his debut in December 2017.

It is understood that club is United, with the keeper set to join up with the development squad.

Manchester United are looking to complete two deals this week, with Bruno Fernandes the other player set to arrive at Old Trafford.

United are ready to pay £46.6million up front for the midfielder with two additional payments.

The first of these is £8.5million, while the second is £12.7million. Both bonuses will be paid out on the completion of certain clauses being triggered.

This would see the total package United pay for Fernandes hit the £67.8million mark.

Fernandes is likely to complete his transfer to Man United this Wednesday, and will put pen to paper of a four-and-a-half year deal.

The Portuguese will fly into Manchester this Wednesday for his medical.

On Tuesday, Fernandes was stopped by a reporter from Portuguese television station SIC, and asked if a move to the Premier League is his preference. He responded: "It always was."
