Sometimes, a post-match ice bath just won't do the trick.

On Thursday night, after playing out a goalless draw against Bolivia in the high altitude city of La Paz, 3,640m above sea level, Brazil's players apparently went to more extreme lengths to aid their recovery.

Squad members including world's most expensive player Neymar were pictured with oxygen masks on their faces as they relaxed in armchairs, still wearing full kit.

Paris Saint-Germain's £198m man Neymar shared the picture on Instagram, adding that it was "inhumane" to play in such conditions.

He claimed the "field, altitude and ball [were] all bad".

High altitude - anything from 2,100m above sea level - can lead to symptoms including sickness, fatigue and dizziness in humans as it causes oxygen levels in the blood to plummet.

A picture on the Brazil team's Instagram page showed Neymar, Manchester City striker Jesus, as well as Alex Sandro, Miranda, Marquinhos and Alisson all hooked up to gas recovery systems.

Neymar and Co, who have already qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, settled for a point playing in La Paz.

Brazil boss Tite, meanwhile, also highlighted the challenges faced by playing at altitude after his team's goalless World Cup qualifier.

Despite numerous attempts at goal by Neymar and Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus, supplemented by efforts by Paulinho and Willian, the visitors were held at 0-0 following a remarkable performance by Bolivia goalkeeper Carlos Lampe.

Speaking after the game, Tite insisted he was happy with his squad's performance and praised their medical team.

He said: "Playing here is very difficult. Strategically, I was very happy. We were upright, offensive. I want to emphasise this great performance. Happy for performance and upset about the result.

"I have to praise our professionals for all the logistics of the medical department that gave all the support to make people feel the effects less."
