Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is desperately trying to tie down Ozil to a new contract as the German midfielder has just 18 months left on his current deal.
The stand-off has alerted Barcelona who have long been interested in the Gunners playmaker, having shown interest in trying to sign him twice before.
The Spanish giants have made enquiries about the status of Ozil’s negotiations and are ready to make a move given any sort of encouragement.
Ozil is Arsenal’s current highest earner on £180,000-a-week and the club are hopeful he will commit to a new deal.
But the German wants in excess of £250,000-a-week and has also made it clear he wants to know Wenger’s future before making a decision.
If Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have not signed new deals Arsenal will face a major dilemma this summer whether to sell or let them run into the final year of their contracts.
