Harambee Starlets player Kinuthia targets fruitful outing in Uganda

Esse Akida plays for Harambee Starlets. Kisumu men were left drooling for one starlet after she performed a twerk after scoring against Uganda Falcons during a recent friendly match that ended 4-0 in favour of the host.

National women football team, Harambee Starlets player Mary Kinuthia says she is expecting a productive outing in the inaugural Cecafa Women tournament set to kick off this Sunday in Jinja, Uganda.

The soft spoken captain says the preparation have been going on well at Kasarani adding that morale is high in camp and they are ready to roar in Uganda.

“We have had good preparations and I believe we are going to do our best and win the title. This will be a good tournament for us as we prepare for the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) later in November.

“The team has really improved after our trip in Spain where we played in the COTIF women football tournament. In Spain we gained a lot of experience and the exposure we had will help us in Cecafa because this will be our second tournament as a national team.

“We have been conceding goals in previous continental qualifiers, but we have learnt from it and we are ready to post positive results in Uganda. The technical bench and the federation have been working hard to make sure we are comfortable and it is up to us to produce good results on the pitch,” she told Feverpitch.

Commenting on team performance captain Ann Aluoch said the team is ready to sparkle in Uganda adding that they will never underrate the hosts whom they played in an international friendly match in June and the Starlets won 4-0.

Kenya has been pooled alongside the hosts Crested Cranes in group A and the two sides will face each other this Sunday.

“We are ready for Cecafa and this will be a good opportunity to gauge the team ahead of AWCON.

“Yes, we defeated them in a friendly match, but it is hard for a team to pick two wins from the same opponent and we will be cautious when we face them,” she said.
