Arsene Wenger hits out at Mesut Ozil

Ozil claimed Arsenal had "screwed up" their title challenge

Ozil claimed Arsenal had screwed up their title bid with the Gunners 11 points off the top but Wenger insists they are still in the mix

Arsene Wenger will give Mesut Ozil a dressing down after insisting he will not allow the players to give up on winning the Premier League.

Gunners midfielder Ozil claimed Arsenal had "screwed up" their title challenge and would need to spend big this summer to come back next season.

But despite being 11 points behind leaders Leicester, Wenger insisted they are still in with a chance and was clearly annoyed with Ozil for suggesting otherwise.

Arsenal boss Wenger said: "The statement is not welcome, I agree with you.

"Because we have to believe, no matter if it just one chance in 100, we have to believe. We only have a real chance if we believe.

"I will make sure they don't feel that. We will talk (with Ozil) about that. Yes, of course. I have nothing against players being honest. You want to be fair and honest. But you want as a well to look forward.

"I think the worst thing in life is to have wrong beliefs. So you have to make sure that you give absolutely your best, and at the end accept that if somebody is better than you, that you have given your best.

"The worst thing for us would be not to believe, and then if we had a good run it was available, possible. I believe that we have to make sure that we play with passion until the end. That is the best way to get the supporters behind us.

"The stress becomes bigger but Leicester are in a very strong position at the moment. They can still lose it. The only way we can achieve that is with us performing."

Fit-again Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck has roared back to form since his return from his ten month nightmare when he was out with a knee injury.

But Wenger says Welbeck's "suffering" though his lengthy lay-off has made him a better player, especially in front of goal as he has scored four goals already.

Wenger added: "I think it's not physical, it's mental. He looks like he realised he has to add something to his game. Maybe he was frustrated as well to be out for the first time for a long, long period.

"It has loaded his mental determination. Before he looked not certain of his game when he came to the finishing but now he looks much more assertive in his game.
