Rio Ferdinand: I’m considering retiring at the end of the season

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has confirmed he will consider retiring at the end of the current season.

Ferdinand only renewed his contract with United in May, amid suggestions that he is plotting a switch to the MLS.

But the 35-year-old admits he will consider quitting football altogether at the end of the campaign.

‘I don’t know what will happen,’ said Ferdinand.

‘I’ve got to get through this season first. I hope I finish this one.

‘Last season I said the same thing.

‘I won’t look any further than the end of the season and then re-evaluate it around that time.’

Ferdinand’s decision on whether to retire or not could be influenced by the rise of his off-field businesses, such as his ‘5’ brand, which features a magazine and clothing range.

The defender is also keen on becoming a full-time pundit, having recently signed up to work with BT Sport.
