Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has pardoned the two Harambee Stars players sent back home from the ongoing Cecafa Tusker Cup in Kampala, Uganda for misconduct.

FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya said he wants the matter to rest after the duo apologised to the federation.

“Paul Were and Kevin Omondi have each personally apologised to me and to Kenyans for their actions that led to their suspension from the national team in Kampala and as human beings when someone shows remorse, the best thing is to forgive,” he said.

“We have pardoned them and given them another chance. The federation will not be taking any further disciplinary action on the players as earlier announced. They remain available for national team selection in future because they are among the best players we have in the country.

“Their presence in the national team would still be crucial in future,” he said.

FKF chairman also asked Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards not to take any further action on the players because the incident occurred when the players were with the national team and the federation has dealt with the issue.

On Thursday, the two players  apologised to the country for the action that led to their suspension from the national team.

The two were ejected from national team camp on Wednesday afternoon after they broke camp rules. Were said they regret their action and described it as a moment of madness.

“We want to apologise to all Kenyans for letting them down by our actions and we would like them to pardon us.

“It was just a moment of madness and we regret it dearly. We love our country and we would always be happy to play for the national team,” said Were.

Kevin Omondi admitted that they had blundered and let down the country.
