A mother who left her baby in the house and went to drink alcohol in Homa Bay town found herself in problem after she was charged with being drunk and disorderly.
Susan Anyango Pamba was charged before Homabay Senior Resident Magistrate Charles Mutai that on April 7, within Homabay town she was drunk and disorderly and was staggering and shouting in public.
The court heard that the accused left her baby in the house within the town and went to take beer. She became drunk and started shouting in town.
The public alerted the police who arrested her.
She pleaded guilty and in mitigation asked the court to
pardon her since she has a baby.
"I beg the court I will not do this again. I left my small
child at home. Allow me to go back and see how she is,"
she pleaded with the court.
She was discharged by the court.
Father and sons convicted for threatening relative over a cow
A father and his two sons found themselves on the wrong side of the law for threatening his brother over a cow.
Victor Oseko, Elijah Maswali and William Amaya
committed the offence on Februrary 24, 2008 at Kemboa village, Gucha District.
They were charged, jointly with others not before court, with intimidating David Mamboleo by chasing and threatening him with a panga.
The three unlawfully trespassed into David Mamboleo’s land.
Mamboleo told the court that on that day at around 7.30 pm, he found his brother’s cow having eaten his beans and nappier grass.
He tethered the cow in his compound as he contemplated
reporting the matter to the authorities.
In the evening, his brother came looking for his cow with a torch.
On seeing it, he went back and returned with his two sons. They were all armed with pangas.
Sensing danger, the complainant hid in his shop.
In mitigation, the three prayed for lenient sentences for family harmony as they were related to the complainant. Ogembo Principal Magistrate Lily Nafula ordered each to pay a fine of Sh5,000 or serve three months in jail in default.
