Six relationship resolutions to strengthen your relationship

When it comes to having a successful relationship, there are no shortcuts. You must navigate through the ups and downs all relationships come with.

But the reward of loving and being loved back inspires us to keep fighting on.

Although important, love will not keep you glued together. Time and effort are the two main things you both must invest in to keep the fire burning.

At the end of the day, one party cannot carry the load of the whole relationship. Both parties must be willing to go the extra mile for the sake of the relationship.

That said, here are some resolutions you can consider taking into action to strengthen your relationship.

Proclaim love

Do not make the assumption that just because you help out in the house or do sweet things for your partner that they know you love them.

While it is true actions speak louder than words, at times your actions have to be followed up with words. The repercussions of not being vocal about how you feel can speak volumes to your better half and doubt may start to rear its ugly head.

All you have to do is look at them in a loving way and tell them, ‘I love you.’ It will not kill you if you genuinely love them.

Talk more

The only way you will grow closer and have a tighter bond is by talking. Let your partner know how your day was, what you’re going through, how they can help and any other issue you may want them to know.

Do not hold back or keep secrets to yourself. The two of you need to feel safe enough to express your feelings. If not, one partner will begin to feel distant and you will not enjoy the full benefits of being in an exclusive relationship with a partner.

Move together

Setting goals as a couple helps you look forward to accomplishing it and to the success of your relationship.

It could be buying a house, going back to school or even starting a business together. This will ensure you’re moving in the same direction and each milestone achieved is celebrated as a win.

Studies have shown that couples who work together to achieve meaningful goals are much happier and stronger.

Make love

The need for physical touch cannot be stressed enough. You can start with kissing, touching, holding and hugging as a sign to let your partner you care and love them.

This according to research has shown that it increases the feel-good hormones and releases stress. While on that high, take advantage and get intimate.

Making love at least once a week has shown to strengthen relationships. Partners feel good about themselves, their partners and relationship.

Be dependable

Good relationships are built on trust. If you say you will stop or do something make sure you follow it through.

As an adult you must take responsibility and complete whatever it is you said you would do without being pushed or reminded.

Do not let your partner play the role of mother just because you’re unreliable and they have to keep on asking you to do something you said you would do.

Leave the past behind

No matter what he or she did, move on and do not bring it up again especially if the person who was on the wrong has apologized and is working on gaining back your trust.
