Why a scalp massage is important

The next time you go to a salon and your hairdresser does not massage your scalp, please raise an alarm! It is an important process in haircare routine. Why?

• It offers you an improved circulation of blood on the scalp and nourishes the hair roots, which triggers growth.

• For many people, life is tough; there are many stressful moments that causes tension in them leading to blockage of adequate flow of blood into the roots of the hair.

• It strengthens the roots of the hair thus triggers growth.

• A scalp massage, especially using warm oils, relaxes the hair follicles. When your scalp and head feels tight, chances of the hair falling are higher.

• It provides deep relaxation to the head and scalp, allowing easier blood circulation to the hair roots. With improved blood circulation on the scalp, the hair roots get nourished which triggers hair growth. Stress and tension on the head/scalp blocks adequate flow of blood to the hair roots.

• Regular scalp massage strengthens the hair roots leading to hair growth.

• It is done using oils and if you use a good moisturising oil like jojoba or something in the same calibre, it adds moisture and conditions the scalp, making your hair look more vibrant.

• Hair that is moisturised regularly is less likely to split or break; thus choose the massage oil wisely.

• In some instances, it heals itchy scalps, prevents flaking and helps with chronic dandruff. This, however, depends on other factors but is a possible benefit.

When you massage the scalp regularly, you also protect your hair from environmental vagaries like weather and toxins since massage strengthens the follicles.

• It relieves some people of depression and any other stressful or negative emotions and provides restful sleep and alleviates chronic insomnia

• There are cases where scalp massage slows hair loss conditions.

• It also spreads the natural scalp oils to the ends of the hair without one having to brush the hair daily (which is harmful to the hair). If your scalp produces sebum in sufficient amounts, it is typically distributed along the length of the hair shaft through normal combing and brushing, which leads to a bit of hair loss. This however can be distributed using fingers at the time of the scalp massage.

• When you get a proper scalp massage, it definitely provides a glow to the complexion of your face.

• It also helps regulate the thyroid and can also help to balance body temperatures.

• Your eyes too, get to relax, thus minimising chronic eye strain. The massage can also be a general tonic for hypersensitivity or excessive nervousness.

• It can also help awaken creativity centres in the brain.

• It has also proven to help in some cases of chronic headaches or migraines.
