Home colours and the inner you

Is it time you changed the colours of your life? Do you want to jump-start a new décor in your house with a painting marathon?

Changing the paint colours of your house is a quick and cheap way to give it a new look. The colours you choose, however, send a message beyond a new look. Psychologists say colours speak volumes about you.

Red
This colour has meant passion for centuries — that is why getting red roses from someone special means, “I love you so much.” People who love red are optimistic, outgoing, passionate about life and action oriented.

Blue
So you are blue? Blue lovers are generally calm, compassionate and follow a steady course. Reminiscent of sky and water, blue appeals to those with peaceful and quiet personalities.

Green
People who want to be surrounded by shades of green tend to like balance and can be considered civilised.

Yellow
It’s a cliché that yellow is sunny and those who pick its shades for their décor also tend to be sunny. People who love yellow also tend to be intellectual, adventurous and highly value their freedom.

Purple
Purple adds drama and flair to any décor. Its lovers are dramatic and tend to be artistic, tolerant and unconventional. They are also fastidious, witty and sensitive, with a strong desire to be unique. They are likely to achieve positions of authority.

Black
Black is renowned for its sexiness and class. It is best used in small doses; otherwise its powerful aura could overwhelm your space. Lovers of black tend to impress in an understated way and generally promote the idea that they are hiding something.

White
Purity comes to mind when you think of white. People who decorate with it likely believe that ‘as white as snow’ is more than a cliché. They love simplicity and see the world through a youthful, innocent lens.

Orange
Vitality and cheer is what describes a place filled with this shade. People who decorate rooms with orange shades tend to be outgoing, social, love challenges and are easy to be with. They, however, love to be the centre of attention.

Gold
This is the colour of wealth, opulence and glamour. It exudes boldness with warmth and luxury and has a long history. Those who love traditional décor opt for it as it provides an air of welcoming elegance.

Grey
Are you seeking peace and tranquillity? Those who decorate in grey have an eye for modern interior design. They are partial to compromise.

Pink
Pink is the colour of affection. Those who decorate with it love attention and are often charismatic. For a modern look, pair it with grey and black.

Maroon
This is a colour often chosen by mature persons. Those who decorate in this shade are generous, yet they know what they want.

Brown
People who love brown prefer stability and like to be dependable. They can, however, also be obstinate.
