With love, from Mbagathi Primary School

As we celebrated the International Women’s Day dinner at the InterContinental-Nairobi on Thursday March 8, one thing prominently stood out — the paintings hung on the walls at the conferencing and banqueting foyer.

No, they were not those pricy Victorian paintings we love to buy in auctions, but simple, yet detailed portraits of some of Kenya’s powerful women.

The work of art was done with love by girls from Mbagathi Primary School in Nairobi. These future leaders have created impressions of their favorite female personalities through their own eyes.

From left: Kavi Mwendwa and Karl Hala of Hotel InterContinental and Nancy Wettstein of Pivot Point admire one of the paintings by Mbagathi Primary Schools pupils on display at the hotel.

Girls aged 10-13 years carried out this exciting exercise. Through this noble activity, they were able to connect to the amazing stories behind these personalities and to identify with their challenges, joys and pains.

The paintings are on sale for purchase of seats for Mbagathi Primary School. In the spirit of this year’s International Women’s Day theme of "Connecting girls; Inspiring futures" let us support this noble project for the future generation.
