I am not dating a politician- Dethroned Miss World Kenya

About three months ago, Roshanara Ebrahim, who was recently stripped off her Miss World Kenya title, reached out to Pulse a disturbed girl.

“I am disturbed by news on blogs that the reigning Miss Kenya, who happens to be me, is dating a politician. I don’t know where they are getting all these lies from. Please, help me let the world know that this is not true,” the 23-year-old beauty queen told Pulse.

“I have never even met the said politician. I don’t even know him. The person who is said to know him is my predecessor, not me,” she dismissed fearing that the rumour could taint her image as she prepared to represent the country in the Miss World event slated for December.

Come last weekend and Ashley Kenya Limited issued a statement stripping her of her title due to breach in code of conduct and contract.

‘’Effective immediately, Roshanara Ebrahim will not be representing the country both domestically and internationally as Miss World Kenya.

A grave situation has come to our attention that is in breach of our Code of Conduct and our contract with the reigning Miss World Kenya 2016 Roshanara. We uphold a strict code of conduct that expects Beauty Queens to manage their public and private life.

Miss World Kenya office will announce Roshanara’s successor in due course. We wish Roshanara the best in her future endeavors.’’ The franchise holder said in a press release forwarded to media houses.

In response to the news, the beauty queen responded with a statement.

“It is with great sadness that I accept the decision of Miss World Kenya office to relinquish me of my duties as Miss World Kenya 2016. I urge aspiring beauty queens to ensure their personal life does not affect their role as Miss World Kenya. I wish my successor the best as we look to clinching top position in the Miss World competition later in the year.”

Becoming the second Miss Kenya to be dethroned, the University of Nairobi Law student was not ready to respond to any media enquiries but confirmed the news. She, however, insisted that she has never dated the said MP, even as speculations remained that that could have triggered her differences with the Miss World Kenya team.

‘’I’m sorry I don’t want to talk to the media at the moment. I was dethroned yes. It was the office’s decision and I can’t fight it,’’ she said.

Unwilling to reveal what the said misconduct could have been, she opted to keep the whole situation under wraps.

‘’The crown did not define me. I had a character before then and I can’t fight with the decision made now. At the moment, I need some time to process everything.’’ Roshanara told Pulse.

According to sources, the issue that got Roshanara to differ with the Miss World Kenya franchise holder had to do with a “private issue”, with some sources alluding to an event that took place some time back, only hinting but refusing to divulge details.

Sources have it that it took a lot of consultation after Roshanara was summoned to the Miss World Kenya offices to clear matters on an alleged issue.

“It was quite a hard task for me and my team to come up with such a decision and the truth is, whatever it was, it was that bad,” Terry Mungai told Pulse adding that it was only in order for her office to protect Roshanara from public scrutiny by not revealing the cause.

“We are back to the process of vetting for her successor and too, won’t be an easy process. It has been some time now since we crowned her,” she said without giving a guarantee that the current Miss World Kenya first runners up Everlyne Thungu will get an automatic chance.

Only in very critical incidences do beauty queens get stripped and the last beauty queen to be stripped of her crown was Sheila Kwamboka in 2006 for what was termed as gross misconduct at the international stage. This cost the then franchise holders the honour of the crown.

‘’It was very unfortunate. Once you’re crowned Miss World Kenya you have to follow the rules and regulations. And just like any other contract if you breach there are consequences.

“I’m not sure what happened. This also caught me by surprise but it must have been a serious situation. How you carry yourself really matters. You are no longer that girl you were. You are now held in esteem and your character should reflect that.’’ Miss World Kenya 2005 Cecilia Mwangi told Pulse.

‘’This is a big blow because the reason they crowned her early was to prepare her adequately. The person who will succeed her will be under pressure to prepare,’’ Cecilia added.
