The Pulse Musik Video Awardz are here with us in a week’s tyme.
And let it be known dat YOU are the judge of who wins, but every major award season, last twelof years, I alwayz make predictions.
Most of dem, I am dead wrong, a some of the others, I hit the nail dead on the coffin — pun intended — so lez see how I will do in a week when the grand winners of the PMVAs are unveiled at the IMax (n thanxxx again to great venue to our two pardner principals, pals Alexei Serkov n Pancy Maina). Here we go: -
Video Vixen of the Year
I know we discovered Risper Faith thru a Pulse cover, or rather, her money maker, or rather, her humongous bum.
But bila playing favourites, n coz Vera Sidika is soooo 2014, n I just don’t think Delilah Ipupa is the one (she still a pupae, not yet a butterfly), I say I give this VV to Sauti Sol’s gal, Amina Amaru, who fine like Amarula.
Male Video of the Year
Kristoff’s Dandia (with Fresha Kaka, which is like new poo-poo) is great. But Bahati hana ‘Bahati’ n I don like Willy Paul, n we close to Jaguar - he only one centimeter away from our hearts - so I am betting on the Jag to gerrrrrit!
Female Video of the Year
It has been Victoria Kimani’s year, from Kenya to Naijjo. And I feel Size 8 has had a lot to handle, from the sad (her ole lady’s demise) to the very happy, the birth of her dottie in the same week (ne’er mind de name of baby be like a melody, Ladadadesha or sum’thin). Suzanne Owiyo is a throwback, so I will go with a comeback - Avril, featuring AY, to win this one.
New Artist of the Year
This one for me is a no brainer.
Cece Sagini first sang at a Pulse industry nait in Carni a coupla years back, n it is just fitting dat the lil tsarina get her first career award at the PMVA. I mean, I donno wat you heard about her, but Cece ain’t a mapping pee-hi-em-pimpess.
Best CinemaTographa
King Kaka for me is the Holy Moses of rap currently, ne’er mind the pr beefski. His rhymes set bushes onfwaya! N with Promised Land, I hope he gets to the Caanan of winning a PMVA. I mean, I donno wat you heard about him, but KK is a matapaka p.i.m.p.
Best Collabo of the Year
Eish by Abbas, Buganya, pretty Petra, Kristoff, Ulopa n Yvonne is the ‘ish.’ Still, coz of guys like the Ndoch, mebe Fimbo ya Tatu shd get it just so yut do not over-throw Grandpa’s Gava (which reminds me, way back, of dat house song called ‘grandpa’s part’e, party, grandpa’s party, part’e, whoooo, party!’ Where is Papa Ahmed, me twinski, to sing along to this shizzle?)
Best Choreography of the Year
P-Unit! Put yur fingers to ya nostrils, n ya hands in the air, but lez be fair. No one can compare to P U when it comes to weka wekaing club bangers, n theya choreographys, togetha.
P Unit needa PMVA in theya hands, n Puma on their feets!
Break-Thru Video
Best break thru video of all time ever was when Shabaa Doo n Boogalo Shrimp did the ‘break dance’ video, back in ‘83, now that 2015 is the new 1985, 80s trends are back n even me imma rocking denim once more. Twende Nyumbani’by Ndegez featuring Madtraxx gets my vote 4 dis one.
Best Group Video of the Year.
Do we even need to uliza which one?
Tulianza na ka-selfie ... Whether ni #TBT or freaky Friday, we all know that The Kansoul took this year by storm with Dabo Tap. I tap them to win this cat.
YouTube Video of the Year
If it waz just song n lyrics alone, then Elani’s Koo Koo would be top cuckoo. But throw in YouTube video, n you want an element of the Kao hilarious n shady ... So Ken wa Maria is my man for this one. But the ‘fundamentals’ are at yur finger tips - ti hi, dat; so unintentionally dirty, I have chuckled as I tap this..
Just log on to sde.co.ke/pmva n vote for your video celeb peeps.
Or SMS the word PMVA, then nominee code, to 22845.
Peace n out.
