Pulse: Describe your signature style...
Kagwe: Every day is different. Since I began my journey in the industry, my music, personality and style have continued to evolve. Previously, I was really into prints and now I’m mixing it up a bit. But simply put it’s African, fun and effortlessly cool.
P: Of all the pieces in your closet, what can’t you get rid of?
K: I’m not particularly attached to any pieces. If I feel something needs to go then it probably does.
P: On a lazy weekend trip to the mall, you will be caught wearing...
K: Keeping it simple is key. Overdoing it tends to be most people’s downfall. You’d probably find me in a T-shirt or hoodie, some simple pants or shorts and boots or high-top sneakers.
P: For your last concert you wore?
K: To my last gig, which was the launch of my new music video Give it to Me, featuring King Kaka, I wore a black trench coat, a white tuxedo shirt, a couple of gold accessories, black pants, a watch and Timberland boots.
P: A well dressed woman is one...
K: Who is self-aware. She knows who she is and knows exactly how to portray that through her dressing.
P: Good hygiene to you means?
Kagwe: Washing your hands! Also, I’m quite keen on smell. A person that smells good is immediately somebody you can have a warm conversation with.
P: Which is the most embarrassing trend you have ever worn?
K: None. Every trend I wore, I once believed in and still stand by to this day. Without those trends my evolution would have been missing certain chapters.
P: Which trend needs to die now?
K: You know those suits that have the sleeves cut off at the elbows? They must be abolished.
P: Which accessories would you splurge on without thinking twice?
K: Probably shoes. But truth be told, if it looks good, is comfortable and I really want it, then I will have it!
P: Which statement piece can’t you leave the house without?
Kagwe: Before I could never leave the house without a scarf. Now it’s a smile and a watch.
