Muthoni DQ breaks ground with 10-week album release

By Jelimo Chelagat

NAIROBI, KENYA: Muthoni Ndonga, the entrepreneur who founded Blankets and Wine, has today kicked off a partnership that will change the music scene in Kenya. In partnership with Standard Digital entertainment (SDE), Muthoni will release her upcoming album one song at a time on SDE’s website.

The sophomore album, titled MDQ, was recorded in Switzerland between June 16th-July 4th  this year. In this exclusive arrangement with SDE, fans from Kenya will be able to download Muthoni’s music for free from www.sde.co.ke.

Speaking during her event dubbed Champagne Breakfast at an exclusive Nairobi Hotel, Muthoni explained that the 10-week album release was meant to give fans time to connect with each song.

“When you release an album at one go, people don’t really take time connect with your music. A lot has gone into the recording of this album, and I would like fans take their time to really listen to each song,” said Muthoni.

The self-styled Drummer Queen said that she had always loved performing music, but her music had taken the back seat in recent years due to the demands of building Blankets Wine. Though her music label, Muthoni went further to say that the album will give fans a chance to know her better.

“The album essentially traces 10 lessons that Muthoni has learnt in the last four years, lessons which have enabled her to get to the point she is. The big idea that success is possible and achievable, on your own terms, no matter where you start,” read a press statement from her record label Muthoni Music.

The album was produced and recorded by Jean “hook” Geissbuhler and Greg “GR” Escoffey through Laurent Corthay also popularly known as DJ Cortega, famous for the ElectrAfrique monthly parties in Nairobi and other parts of the world.
