The cause of death of a USIU star hockey player has been established.
MBA student Dennis Odongo (pictured), died of heart failure, according to a post-mortem report seen by the USIU Student Association Council.
The body of 34-year-old Odongo was found in his room at Roysambu on June 2.
Odongo, who would have graduated in December with an MBA in strategic management, had represented USIU in key tournaments locally and abroad.
Hockey team captain John Kabuu said Odongo was one of the most valued players in USIU.
The deceased was the captain for USIU’s hockey team from 2006 to 2009.
The defender played for USIU on June 1 when his team beat Parkroad in the Nairobi Cup.
He was, however, dead when teammates went to wake him up for the next game.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Ruth Asunda said: “Dennis was a humble and dedicated hockey player, who had been on the university team since undergraduate days. Our hearts go to his family, fellow hockey players and friends.”
The USIU administration said he will be laid to rest on June 14 in Siaya.
