A Swedish national and eleven girls have been arraigned in a Mombasa court for ‘engaging’ in illicit sex activities.
The suspects, who were arrested in Nyali were on Friday remanded in custody for three days to give the police time to investigate into their activities.
They were remanded in police custody by Mombasa Resident Magistrate G.O. Kimanga after Kisauni Criminal Investigation officer Shadrack Juma successffully applied for it.
The suspects are Christopher Clement Weisssenrieder, Janet Akoth Omollo, Mercy Waithera Karanja, Mary Nyambura Kimani, Magdaline Wairimu Chege, Celestine Nekesa Sitati and Dorcus Melishah Indakwa.
The others are Lydia Nyaboke Momanyi, Philidelia Mawia Solomon, Anne Wanjiku Gichuki and Celilia Nzambi Katuku.
Juma told the court that he wanted the suspects to be remanded at the police cell to allow him investigate a case of exploitation prostitution in which individuals are exposed to sexual activities for monetary gain.
The accused were ordered to be remanded at Nyali police station until Wednesday.
