Former Kabras Sugar and Kenya Simbas backrower Lawrence Buyachi has been appointed the new Kisumu Rugby Football Club head coach.

Buyachi was selected among a field of three candidates which included former coach Ugandan Brian Makalama and Alex Agalo.

Kisumu RFC Director Fredrick Maube confirmed to The Standard Sports that Buyachi has signed a season-long contract.

"Buyachi will sign his contract on Saturday. It will be as season long contract that will ultimately depend on how he performs during the regular season and if he will achieve the set goals," said Maube.

Buyachi's main task will be to guide Kisumu RFC back to Kenya Cup having been relegated in the 2020 season.

Buyachi is also a strength and conditioning specialist and his qualifications include World Rugby Level Two 15's coach and he is currently doing Level Two 7's coach.

During his heydays, the burly Buyachi played for Uganda's Pirates, Impala, Nakuru RFC and Kabras. He has had coaching stints with South Coast Pirates, Kabarak RFC, Kabras Academy and Eldoret RFC as a guest coach.

He will be assisted by Dick Osano while Caleb Kiprotich remains the team manager.

This will be second time Buyachi is making a comeback into coaching after doing the same five years ago.

Buyachi left Top Fry Nakuru in 2017 to take up coaching role at championship side South Coast Pirates but returned to playing when he joined Kabras Sugar in 2019.
