56th Annual Grammy Awards List of Winners

Profiles

Jay Z and Beyonce Carter

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday, 26th January at the Staples Center, Los Angeles.

The power couple Beyonce and Jay Z opened the show with a sensually charged performance of Drunk in Love. Beyonce, known for her energetic stage performances, toned it down to burlesque inspired dance moves on a chair.

Other performances included Taylor Swift, 17 year old newcomer Lorde, Katy Perry and Pink!

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were the big winners of the night with 4 Grammys to their name. Their surprise win was probably the best rap performance where they beat Drake, Jay Z, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. They also took home the best Rap Album, beating Kanye’s Yeesuz album, Jay Z’s Magna Carta..Holy Grail and Drake’s Nothing was the same.

This is a win that has shocked and angered fans who are yet to understand how the legendary rap heavyweights can be defeated by a newcomer duo.

Daft Punk, the French duo that has been in the industry since 1993 but was only known to many in 2012, bagged 3 Grammy awards. Daft Punk, who rarely grant interviews or appear on television, graciously accepted their awards but remained silent.
