Celebrities who have served jail time

With all the vibe about leaders going to court, one tends to wonder how many more people do we look up to that have a criminal record other than the usual weed charges and drunken charges. Ruby Orimba takes us through top celebrities who served jail time sometime in their life.

Lil Wayne

Hip hop rapper was first charged for count with criminal possession of loaded weapons in 2007 and later that year he was arrested for possessing a controlled substance though this accusation was dropped. However, sorry is a word unfamiliar to this chap as the next year the police found marijuana, cocaine, MMDA and charged him with it.  R. Kelly Pop singer was charged with twenty one counts of child pornography and illegally engaging in sexual acts with a minor but was released due to lack of testimonial evidence from the girl in question. Mike Tyson The youngest man to ever win the heavy weight championships had amusingly been arrested thirty eight times by the age of thirteen for petty crimes. Bad habits proved to die hard for this fighter as he elevated his criminal record a notch higher after being arrested for raping Miss Black Rhoda in 1991 and serving six years in prison. Robert Downey JR Mostly known as Iron man was placed behind bars for drunk driving, possession of cocaine, heroin, crack and a magnum revolver in 1996 and was sentenced to six months. Later on in 2001 he was arrested again for the possession of cocaine. Lil Kim The feisty rapper and singer as first arrested in for having marijuana in 1996 then later on in 2001 she was sentenced to one year and one day in prison with a fifty thousand dollar fine for perjury and conspiracy. 50 cent Getting rich had the rapper’s career dying for six months serving in a boot camp after being arrested for selling cocaine and crack at the age of nineteen. In 2002 50 cent was sentenced to two years of probation for assault and battery.

Bill Gates Shocking as it is, the Microsoft owner was a little bad boy back in the days. Bill got gated for several cases of drunk driving, over speeding and not stopping at stop signs.  Eminem The famous worldwide rapper was charged with assault and having concealed a weapon in the year 2000 after finding out that his love Kim was cheating on him with. Eminem was lucky though since he was only put on probation since he did not have any other case on his criminal records.

Lindsay Lohan

The party crazed starlet was arrested in 2007 for being in possession of cocaine, trafficking narcotics and driving under the influence of drugs. Lindsay has been to rehab three times and still she has kept a criminal record for her insane driving. T.I The philosophical rapper has been arrested severally for manufacturing and distributing crack cocaine, battering a police, probation violations, purchase and possession of criminal weapons and possession of controlled substances and has served approximately three years behind bars and two years of probation. Snoop Dogg The legendary rapper was arrested in connection with the death of Philip Wolderman, a member of a rival gang, who was shot and killed by Snoop Dogg’s bodyguard. He was also arrested for marijuana, trafficking and vandalizing shops with his friends in South Africa. Asap Rocky Popularly known for his song ‘**** ng Problem’, is has also made a name for himself in the courts of law. Rocky has been arrested for attempted robbery, female assault and attempted grand larceny. Akon After being ratted out by underlings who felt like they were not being enough, Akon had to serve a jail term of Four and a half years including a long stretch for being the ring leader of a notorious car theft operation. Jay Z President and owner of the Roc-A-Fella Entertainment was originally charged with a felony assault but pleaded guilty and got arrested for simply stabbing a record executive in Manhattan nightclub.

While this list doesn’t sum up the total number of celebrities with records, it’s good to point out that top Hip-hop artist; Unforgiving Rick Ross was originally a prison guard before he joined music. Some other artists who claim to have lived the hard knock life like Alicia Keys, Drake, and Kanye have no criminal records.
