Drama as Judge Ian confronts government vehicle driving on wrong side in Nairobi CBD

NEWS

Ian Mbugua, popularly known as Judge Ian from Tusker Project Fame, caused a stir in Nairobi's Central Business District when he stopped a government vehicle attempting to drive on the wrong side of the road.

The 36-second video, which has since gone viral, shows Mbugua refusing to pave way forcing the GK registered vehicle reverse and join the correct lane as onlookers cheered.

The clip, shared by PropesaTV on X, drew widespread praise, with users celebrating his courage. "Judge Ian injecting," the caption read.

This incident joins a string of similar confrontations that have sparked debate about entitlement and lawlessness on Kenyan roads.

Few weeks ago, CNN journalist Larry Madowo filmed a tense encounter involving the vehicle of Kibra MP Peter Orero, which was also driving on the wrong side.

Madowo's car, which was in the correct lane, refused to move aside, prompting a heated exchange. When Madowo began recording, Orero lashed out, saying:

"Take that video to President William Ruto."

Unfazed, Madowo replied sharply:

"Okay, I will take it to Ruto, that's the only thing you're afraid of?"

The MP's vehicle eventually sped off as the driver hurled insults at the journalist. Public outrage followed, with many Kenyans criticising the conduct as reckless and unbecoming of a public leader.

The driver, Oduor, was later charged and sentenced by Milimani magistrate Rose Ndombi to 12 months in jail, or a fine of Sh100,000, after pleading guilty to dangerously overtaking along Oloitoktok Road.

He apologised, claiming it was his first offence.

Other recent confrontations have included a September 2025 standoff where a bus driver refused to give way to a government vehicle, and an incident where a woman and a lorry driver blocked another official's car from overlapping.
