The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is intensifying efforts to uncover the details surrounding the murder of 26-year-old socialite Starlet Wahu Mwangi.

The prime suspect, John Matara, is now in police custody, prompting the DCI to appeal to potential victims and survivors to come forward and report their experiences.

Wahu's lifeless body was discovered on Thursday morning in a 4th-floor AirBnB room at Papino Apartments in Nairobi's South B.

The watchman reported seeing Matara fleeing with bloodstained clothes, triggering a swift response from Makadara detectives.

The female owner of the AirBnB, unlocking the room with a spare key, stumbled upon a grim scene - Wahu's body sprawled on the floor, indicative of a desperate struggle.

The DCI stated, "Examination of the body revealed a stab wound on the head near the left ear, a deep cut on the right thigh, and a human bite on the left arm. Broken glasses and splattered blood throughout the room evidenced a moment of life and death struggle."

Matara, aged 34, and his friend, Anthony Nyongesa, 25, were later apprehended at Mbagathi Hospital, where Matara sought treatment for minor injuries. Both were escorted to the Industrial Area Police Station.

Investigations suggest a possible serial sexual offender operating within a criminal ring targeting women through dating sites and social media apps, using blackmail as leverage. The DCI commended those who reported encounters with Matara and urged more witnesses to come forward.

The DCI pledged to meticulously investigate this brutal murder, underscoring the need for public vigilance against individuals who disguise themselves as lovers but turn out to be perpetrators of heinous crimes.

"The DCI commits to painstakingly investigate this brutal murder of such a young Kenyan," stated the DCI. "Meanwhile, the public is cautioned to beware of individuals disguising themselves as lovers but turning out to be perpetrators of heinous crimes."
