Comeback music star Lucy Musa now says she was played by her former lover leading to depression that got her quitting music and relocating to Australia seven years ago.
During an interview with Mwende Macharia on Radio Maisha, her first radio interview since she returned to Kenya for her music relaunch about a week ago, Lucy said she had suffered a nasty romantic scam in a long-term relationship she had thought would end up in marriage.
“Sio wanaume tu hukuliwa fare. Even women get scammed. I was in this relationship with a man whom I thought was my real lover. We were two years apart in age and we were together for five and a half years. I faked that he was my boyfriend yet what he was with me for, the same he was with other women. I was in and out of the country and it was easy for me to get caught up in this while thinking I was making an investment at home. This was a romantic scam,” she said during the interview.
“It was a real character development…More than character development and something I would not wish anyone would go through. Not that I am bitter about it anymore but I would encourage any woman out there who has suffered the same not to be shy about it. My mum used to warn me about it but I never took her advice,” Lucy said.
Back in the music industry with a bang, the singer has now released her two new tracks, Uwii and Duck, Amapiano tunes whose message is centred on the artiste’s romantic scam story. It first came through a skit titled Forex Trader, one that featured DJ Shiti.
Asked whether the guy was a prominent figure, the singer said she would divulge more details at a later date.
“…He knows himself and for me, this is just to let Kenyans and especially my fans know that these things happen in our society.”
“I have about nine songs ready, complete with the videos. I have been in South Africa working on this for about three months and now I am in Nairobi to relaunch my music career. I am ready to start again,” she said.
