Caroline Njeri from Kiarimui village in Runyenjes Constituency, Embu County emerged the winner of the Guitar ya Karish @40 contest, beating 59 other contestants in a month-long competition that concluded at the Billionaires Club in Embu town.

Njeri, 24, won a guitar donated by popular Embu Benga musician Newton Karish, who is also an MCA representing Muminji Ward.

Njeri, who is partially blind, could not hide her joy as tears flowed after securing a recording deal, an entertainment job at the Billionaires Club and a second job at a local vernacular station.

“I have no words but to thank God, the contest organisers led by Hon Karish and all the fans for supporting me,” Njeri said.

In an interview after the event, Njeri noted that despite stigma from her peers in and after school, she ignored their mockery and forged forward with her goals.

She suffers from glaucoma, an eye condition brought about by pressure in the eyes and now has to depend on friends to go about some of her duties.

Karish said he will help nurture and promote talents as he celebrates 40 years in the music industry, adding that he faced the biggest challenge while trying to record his first album.
