Christina Shusho set to perform in Kenya due to 'public demand'

Tanzanian gospel artiste Christina Shusho is set to perform in Kenya this December.

Through a post on her X platform, the Teta Nao singer said she intends to have a concert on New Year’s Eve, in collaboration with Daniel Ndambuki aka Churchill.

“Due to increasing demands for a concert in Kenya my team and I are working with @MwalimChurchill to have a concert on the 31st December 2023.. ( Kingereza kimeisha),” she wrote.

Shusho has been a trending personality for the past few days after some argued that she sings Bible verses word for word.

This is after a netizen highlighted some of the lyrics in her song ‘Shusha Nyavu’ where she was accused of lacking originality.

Her followers, however, jumped to her defence, lauding her ability to deliver gospel music in its raw form without diluting the message.

Here are some of the reactions:

Wesley Nyatome: In my own opinion, It's a unique approach that can help convey the message of the Bible with authenticity. I find it powerful and true to the Bible.

Jossy Kikai: So many gospel songs ni bible verses if you listen carefully and there's no problem i think it's another way of spreading the gospel.

Feney Ogalo: Gospel songs are a way of spreading the word. I see no harm in her using those lines from the bible; in fact, I get blessed with her songs. Neno lizidii kutangazwa.

Kigen: Plagiarism... really? That can't be the case. I mean it is a gospel message buana.

While some perceive her adherence to direct biblical quotes as a powerful and sober dissemination of the Gospel, others question the fine line between reverence and creative expression, pondering the boundaries between scriptural authenticity and artistic license.

Over the years, gospel music has evolved and some modern-day artistes have incorporated new techniques in their craft.

All this in a bid to reach out to more people, with a prime focus on the youth.

According to some, this has somehow adulterated authentic gospel music in a bid to please the masses.

Should gospel music be altered to accommodate people or should people change their ways and conform to what is right?
