Kenyan cinematographer J Blessing has spoken after he was accused of battering his baby mama Avril Nyambura.

Through a statement on his socials, the video director said he was sorry for any harm he had caused the singer and admitted he was not perfect.

He, however, clarified that one of the photos posted by Avril had been taken almost a year ago when they had an altercation and they both got hurt.

J Blessing added that he took Avril to hospital, and took full responsibility for that incident.

“I sincerely apologise for any harm I have caused Avril or any other person. I am not innocent but I would like to clarify a few things.

“About a year ago we had a physical altercation where we both got hurt and on that day, I immediately took her to the hospital at Aga Khan. I take full responsibility for that moment of weakness. One of the pictures she posted is from that incident,” he wrote.

He further added, that the two of them had an altercation on Tuesday night but there was no physical harm.

J Blessing said he did not beat Avril and that he is not an abuser. He admitted to making mistakes, adding that they had decided to ‘stay away from each other to prevent such incidents from happening again.’

Avril, on her part, said she had to tell the world what was happening in her life but had forgiven J Blessing.

She called on netizens to forgive him too for humans err.

The singer acknowledged that their 7-year relationship had been through ups and downs, and some of their conflicts escalated into fights.

She said they were willing to seek help to address the matter and recognised the need for change.

“No, it is not clout. I would be the worst kind of human to joke with something so heartbreaking to so many men and women all over the world…no it’s not me looking for sympathy, it’s just me being human and deeply understanding that everyone is deserving of humanity, especially in these times where we should all be kind to one another regardless of whether you receive kindness or not, you should strive to give it, and give it abundantly,” she wrote.

Avril added that she does not condone domestic abuse, saying speaking out is the only way out and no one should be ridiculed for doing so.

“Matters are with the relevant authorities and I am doing okay. Just don’t want my heart laden with an unforgiving weight on it,” she wrote.
